DeepQure, a developer of renal denervation (RDN) medical devices, announced that Raymond Townsend, Professor Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and a world-renowned authority in the field of hypertension, has joined the company as an advisor.

Professor Townsend is a global scholar in hypertension who was named ‘Physician of the Year’ by the American Heart Association (AHA) in 2016 and is a Fellow of the AHA. He is a top-tier researcher who scientifically proved the clinical efficacy of modern RDN treatment, notably serving as a lead investigator for ‘SPYRAL HTN,’ Medtronic’s large-scale global clinical program for RDN devices.

As the Vice Chair of the writing committee for the ‘2024 AHA Scientific Statement on Renal Denervation for the Treatment of Hypertension,’ he plays a leading role in establishing global guidelines for the RDN field and continues to lead the academic paradigm.

An official from DeepQure stated, “The joining of world-class scholar Professor Townsend is a testament to the recognized global potential of DeepQure’s technology. Based on Professor Townsend’s insights and counsel, we will maximize the integrity and success of our upcoming core clinical trials in the United States.”

With this appointment as a turning point, DeepQure plans to further expand its global network and strategically push forward with core global clinical trial procedures to secure U.S. FDA approval and commercialization of the HyperQure™ device.
